We have chosen to raise llamas as our sole livestock at River Oaks Ranch because of their gentle, inquisitive nature. Whether available for purchase or part of our breeding stock, each one is a pet. Our llamas know their names, and are receptive to love and attention. As pets or work animals, they will adapt well to many other animals including horses, cattle, goats, sheep, donkeys, dogs, cats, etc.

Our llamas receive care specific to their individual needs for the improvement of both their health and temperament. We provide comfortable pastures and shelter to the llamas in inclement weather. We groom our llamas regularly for their comfort (except in the hot summers), for their appearance (always silky and well-groomed), and for their temperament. Familiarity with human proximity and handling makes them gentle and compliant.

Of course, we always provide for any medical needs including worming in March and October or as needed, and annual vaccinations are performed by simple sub-dermal injections.
